“I want a new career but I have no direction on where to start or where I want to be.”

This is what I heard from a client today. The client lives on the west coast, is in her mid 30’s and has always had positions involved in customer service. The client had a clear version of where her life should be versus where it actually is. She believed she wanted to be married, have 1-2 kids, and a career that could financially support her family. She could not understand why she kept looking to make a job change every 1-2 years. In addition, she has yet to find a role where she took pride in or feel any satisfaction. The client felt frustrated, unhappy, disconnected from herself, and did not feel like she had a purpose to guide her.

Discovery Process

Awareness Stage

Once she had realized where her validation was coming from, she saw the challenge she would continue to face if she did not reconsider what validation means and where it comes from means to her. She understood validation needed to come from another source. This was a new thought process for her and one she recognized may take time to change.

Although a career change was the ultimate goal, she knew she had to set some smaller goals to prepare herself for her final goal. Any change right now would be another temporary move that would not provide her the fulfillment and roadmap she is looking for.

Action Plan

As a result of our time together, she saw herself differently and with more optimism. She discovered things in herself she had either forgotten or never recognized. We ended our meeting with the first action step she could take toward making a career change. Although there are more steps to take to achieve her goal, she was thrilled to end the session with a map on how to get there.

Her growth and transformation has started, are you ready to start yours?
